Cercidiphyllum japonicum 'Hekenrode Dwarf'

Local name: Katsura

Katsura. A healthy tree with lovely round leaves, produces shoots in the early spring. When the shoots are damaged due to night frosts, they will produce a caramel scented fragrance, this same fragrance is produced during the autumn when the leaves begin to fall. This plant is quick to recover and will make new shoots without a hassle. The colour of the young shoots are bronze, during the summer they turn bluish green and during the autumn they will turn yellow and orange. The variety 'Hekenrode Dwarf' is still so new and unknown, that we're not quite sure about the exact size of this tree, this variety grows busher than the usual C. japonicum and is said to be smaller. The tree grows best on moist soils.
